5G pilot zones will appear in all Russian regions by 2030

MOSCOW, May 18. 5G pilot zones should appear in every constituent entity of the Russian Federation by 2030, said Deputy Head of the Ministry of Digital Development Dmitry Ugnivenko at the plenary session “Economy of Data and Digital transformation of the state», which took place at the exhibition «Russia».
«Don't forget about new technologies — fifth generation communication networks. By 2030, pilot zones should appear in every subject of the Russian Federation, and in 16 cities with a population of more than one million people, commercial networks should appear that will provide services to fifth generation networks,» Ugnivenko said.

In March, the State Commission on Radio Frequencies (SCRF) identified testing areas for methods of dynamic frequency spectrum management on 5G networks — the pilot project will take place in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Novosibirsk, Nizhny Novgorod, as well as in the Moscow and Leningrad regions, Russian base stations will be used stations. This is the first step to test hybrid network technologies in Russia.

In December 2023, the head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Maksut Shadayev, told reporters that the active deployment of 5G networks at Russian base stations will begin in 2026 in large cities. According to him, preparatory work to launch the networks will take place in 2025.
In August, a draft strategy for the development of communications in the Russian Federation was published. It says that by 2035, 5G networks using domestic equipment will be deployed in all Russian cities with a population of 100 thousand or more.
