Moscow, May 17. It will be able to take not just pictures from the space, but to receive digital data on the surface of the Earth and the objects on it, said Dmitry Baranov, general director of the Rocket and Space Center (RCC), general director of the rocket and space center (RCC).
“The Obzor-R spacecraft No. 1 is at the final stage of production. Its launch is planned in the near future,” Baranov said.
He added that the center has already begun work on the creation of the second satellite of this series.
“The characteristics of devices of this type will allow us to conduct all-weather, round-the-clock observation of the earth’s surface with high resolution and the advantages that radar technology gives us. This is not just a photograph, it is digital data about the properties of the surface and objects on it,” said the general director of the enterprise.
It was previously reported that the Obzor-R satellite No. 1 will join the Russian orbital constellation in 2024. The launch of another radar satellite, Condor-FKA No. 2, is also expected (the first was launched on May 27, 2023). As Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Trutnev said earlier, the devices will also be used for ice radar.
