Former Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Ground Forces, Army General Vladimir Boldyrev commented on the message of the 235th Garrison Military Court that the former commander of the 58th Combined Arms Army, Major General Ivan Popov, was arrested in a case of fraud on an especially large scale. Earlier it was reported that Popov was suspected of selling about two thousand tons of metal products, which were intended for the construction of defenses in the Zaporozhye region before the start of the counter-offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The damage is estimated at 100 million rubles. A certain Moiseev S.V. was also arrested in the case.

«I knew Popov as a competent, capable, skillful commander. I have known him for quite a long time,» Boldyrev said on NSN.

According to the army general, Popov is “not capable of such a thing.” He called everything that happened “amazing and unpleasant.”

Boldyrev added that at the time when Popov led the defense in the Zaporozhye region, there was such a difficult moment that “there was simply no time for it.”

“I don’t believe in this, I can’t, for me it’s just extremely surprising,” the former commander-in-chief of the Ground Forces emphasized once again.
