NIZHNY NOVGOROD, May 21. The overall level of cybersecurity in the United States will decrease if Kaspersky Lab leaves this market, this opinion was expressed by the head of the company Evgeny Kaspersky.
“I think the overall level of cybersecurity in North America will decrease without our presence,” Kaspersky said on the sidelines of the Digital Industry of Industrial Russia (CIPR) conference.
He explained that the international presence allows the company to see telemetry and respond to attacks that occur in the region, including in the States. «It works like this: we catch new malware and immediately share what we caught with our local and international colleagues. At the technical level there is a constant exchange. We change with them, and they change with us. This is a continuous process. At the same time, we we catch more,” said the head of the company.
As CNN reported in April, citing sources, the US administration intends to prohibit American citizens and private companies from using any software created by Kaspersky Lab for reasons of national security. The TV channel noted that this ban would be “unprecedented.”
At the same time, earlier in May, Kaspersky Lab conducted a series of expert online trainings on cybersecurity for Interpol employees. The trainings were aimed at improving their competencies in the field of detecting complex threats, reverse engineering, and incident response. The company then said that experts have been conducting trainings for Interpol law enforcement officers since 2019. During this time, more than ten of them were conducted, and training will continue in 2024.
In 2017, the US Department of Homeland Security banned the use of Kaspersky Lab software by federal authorities due to suspicions of the company's ties to Russian intelligence services. And in March 2022, the US Federal Communications Commission included Kaspersky Lab in the list of companies whose activities pose a threat to the national security of the country and people.
