BUENOS -AYRES, May 21Palaeontologists have discovered a new species of carnivorous dinosaur in Argentina that lived 69 million years ago, the national scientific and technical research council CONICET said.
“CONICET experts reported the discovery of a new carnivorous dinosaur that lived on the territory of the modern province of Chubut 69 million years ago. We are talking about the abelisaurid family,” the report says.
These dinosaurs inhabited the ancient southern supercontinent Gondwana. These were bipedal animals with vestigial forelimbs.
The new species is distinguished by the small size of the skull and the absence of horns, which were possessed, for example, by Carnotaurus, a species of dinosaur from the same family common on the continent.
Palaeontologists have found several skull bones, an almost complete set of spinal bones, a whole femur, several tail bones and almost complete dinosaur legs.
