ST. PETERSBURG, May 22. The XVIII International Media Forum «Dialogue of Cultures» began its work in St. Petersburg. The opening ceremony took place at the Hermitage Theater. Journalists, directors, photographers, bloggers from 29 countries and 45 Russian regions, including new territories, came here.
Forum participants will enjoy master classes, discussions and round tables on the most pressing issues in the media sphere, as well as a photo exhibition and screening film works, exciting excursions around St. Petersburg and other Russian cities.
Guests of the forum were welcomed by the General Director of the State Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky, the head of the Russian Presidential Administration for Public Projects Sergei Novikov (via video link), the Director of the Department of Information and Press of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova (via video link), and the Chairman of the Committee on Press and Media Relations Vladimir Ryabovol (St. -Petersburg), executive director of the Russkiy Mir Foundation Vladimir Kochin, chairman of the Union of Journalists of Russia Vladimir Solovyov, chairman of the Media Congress «Commonwealth of Journalists» Ashot Dzhazoyan, editor-in-chief of Sputnik radio and member of the Presidential Council of the Russian Federation for the development of civil society and human rights Kirill Vyshinsky.
Among the experts and participants of the forum this year are representatives of the countries of the post-Soviet space, as well as Argentina, Bulgaria, Greece, Egypt, Spain, Italy, China, Mexico, Serbia , Tunisia, France, Switzerland and other countries.
“This project has been around for many years; Ashot Egisheevich Jazoyan and I once created it in the Hermitage,” says Mikhail Piotrovsky in an interview. “This universal museum is a symbol of how a sovereign culture exists in a single world. And this is the most acute problem that is now facing all of us — it is being solved here every day. That is, the problem of dialogue of cultures is essentially our daily practice in the Hermitage, and with the help of this forum it is spreading further.»
According to the director of the Hermitage, the materials that the participants film here are not entirely standard. “Sometimes they are more interesting than the usual interviews and reports,” says Piotrovsky. “And we regularly show these films and clips made in today’s aesthetics at Hermitage Days around the world. In particular, videos where no words are needed, where nothing is they say where the visual range is important and no translation is required. The main thing is that the International Forum “Dialogue of Cultures” has existed for many years, it lives, it has withstood the problems of our time, both economic, pandemic, and political.”
This year, the number of guests taking part in the “Dialogue of Cultures” has increased, representatives of European countries came.

“And this was largely thanks to the support of the Hermitage — this is a civilizationally sacred place,” said the creator of the media forum, Ashot Dzhazoyan. “I’ll be honest: when we invite guests, experts, participants here, they immediately agree, they simply ask without unnecessary discussions: “When should we go?»
According to him, some journalists from the Baltic states and Great Britain would also like to come to St. Petersburg, but they are afraid of the reaction in their countries to their participation in the Russian forum. “In addition to the sanctions stories and the cancellation of our culture, there is another problem, a purely material one — buying tickets. It now costs a lot of money to bring participants, experts from Europe or other continents to Russia. Some colleagues even travel at their own expense. And many were supported by the fund «Russian World» is very important.»
