«Measures have been taken to improve the status of the Russian Academy of Sciences»
A large number of government representatives were present at the General Meeting of the RAS, which began on Tuesday, May 28, in the RAS building on Leninsky Prospekt , 32.
< p>976 members of the Academy who gathered in the Great Hall of the Russian Academy of Sciences came to greet: Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Alexander Zhukov, Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov, Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko and others.
Dmitry Medvedev took the floor first. He noted the importance of the Academy of Sciences being fully involved in government decision-making. “The election of the head of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Gennady Yakovlevich Krasnikov, to the Security Council of the Russian Federation is also connected with this. This practice existed, and now it has been restored,” – said the politician.
Stressing the great role of the Academy in ensuring the food and biological security of the state, in the fight against cyber threats, Medvedev also noted the important role of the Russian Academy of Sciences in conducting research for the country's defense capability.
“In this difficult period, during a special military operation, scientists offer unique solutions for the development of promising types of weapons, as was the case in both the Soviet and Tsarist periods, – Medvedev said. – This is important for us and our entire country. Tests on the battlefield have shown that the proposed solutions help to effectively resist the enemy.”
Dmitry Anatolyevich also noted that the state should pay the Academy in return. Therefore, according to him, measures are being taken to improve the status of the RAS and expand its capabilities. He also approved the inclusion on the agenda of the meeting of the issue of creating a board of trustees of the Academy. This, according to him, is a return to experience that took place in different periods and was useful for the Academy and for the state as a whole.
In conclusion, Dmitry Medvedev noted:
“We are surrounded here from all sides, they are trying to create uncomfortable conditions, including for scientific activity. But we will achieve results that we could not even imagine some time ago; such restrictions contribute to creativity, oddly enough.”
