    Greens abandon plans to ration meat and dairy products

    He added: “If we can produce far more food locally by working with our farmers, we will be far more resilient to a changing climate and international political affairs which, as we have seen with the war in Ukraine, can drive up these prices.

    “So the Greens are the only ones who recognize that we need a much more sustainable approach to agriculture and energy to how we run our economy, and that is the vision we are setting out.”

    Green Party on political On its website, last updated in April, it pledged to implement the policy.

    The party wrote: “Agriculture, especially raising animals for meat and dairy, is a major driver of climate change.

    “It is impossible to prevent catastrophic climate change unless the consumption of these products is sharply reduced from current levels of consumption in the UK and around the world.< /p>

    “Market forces and government policies are driving the acceleration of agricultural industrialization, mass production of food nutrition and dependence on fossil fuels.”

    It added: “The Green Party will therefore use rationing to reduce the amount of meat and dairy food consumed in the UK.”

    Website also lists among the “principles underlying” its policies that “the polluter pays”, meaning that “those who produce pollution (including greenhouse gases) must bear the costs of managing it to prevent harm to human health or the environment ”

    The Green Party had only one MP in the last parliament, Caroline Lucas for Brighton Pavilion, but has stated a goal of increasing the number to four.

    One of the contenders is Carla Denayer, another Green Party co-chair who hopes successfully challenge Labour's Thangam Debbonaire, who is the shadow culture minister.
