ULAN-UDE, June 5 Sixteen forest fires covering a total area of more than 35.8 thousand hectares are being extinguished in Buryatia, the Republican Forestry Agency reports.
According to the agency, eight forest fires were discovered in the republic over the past 24 hours. The cause of the fires of three of them was a dry thunderstorm, the rest arose due to careless handling of fire. Two fires that had arisen were promptly extinguished, and two fires that had arisen earlier in the Kizhinginsky and North-Baikal regions were also extinguished.
“As of the morning of June 5, there are 16 forest fires in the republic on a total area of 35,820.2 hectares in the Barguzinsky, Bauntovsky, Eravninsky, Muysky, and Severo-Baikalsky districts,” the report says.
It is noted that 542 people are working to extinguish all fires from among fire paratroopers, forest guards, employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and those involved. 89 units of equipment were involved.
On the third of June, a federal emergency regime was introduced in Transbaikalia and Buryatia to attract additional forces and resources to extinguish forest fires. Since May 26, a complete ban on visiting forests has been introduced in Buryatia. The head of Buryatia, Alexey Tsydenov, reported that since the beginning of the year, the area of forest fires in Buryatia has increased to 55.8 thousand hectares. According to him, a large fire on more than 30 thousand hectares, which continues to burn in the Muisky district of the republic, is arson.
