The State Duma spoke about signs of video forgery

MOSCOW, June 9 A video message created with the help of deepfakes can be identified by the movement of the person’s eyes in the video, the color of the skin and hair, the contour of the oval of the face – they can often be blurry, strange, in the case of audio messages, it is necessary to evaluate the clarity and intonation of speech, said Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy.
“The quality of deepfakes has increased significantly over the past few years, but there are still a number of signs by which a “fake” can be identified. Pay attention to eye movements, skin and hair color, the contour of the oval of the face – they can often be blurry and strange. voice fakes, you should always carefully evaluate the intonation and clarity of speech. And, of course, always be generally critical of any requests that you receive online if it concerns your personal data or financial resources,” he said.

The deputy clarified that even if a citizen already definitely believes the message received, it would not be superfluous to try to contact the person on whose behalf the person was contacted.

The deputy also noted that there are several reasons why fraudsters today are able to successfully create deepfakes. One reason is the availability of technology.
“Modern technologies are becoming increasingly accessible and easy to use. There are open source software libraries and tools that allow you to create deepfakes with minimal programming knowledge. This lowers the barrier to entry for potential fraudsters, allowing them to quickly create convincing fake videos and audio recordings,” Nemkin emphasized .
The deputy also said that networks and video sharing platforms make it possible to quickly distribute content, including deepfakes. This means fake videos or images can quickly go viral and reach a wider audience before they are debunked or identified as fake, Nemkin said.
“Some deepfakes can be so realistic that it can be difficult even for experts to identify a fake. Deep learning technologies make it possible to create realistic synthetic images and videos that can deceive even experienced users,” Nemkin emphasized.
