Together with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia and the KOMITAS company, the Post Office will cooperate in the production of domestic equipment for logistics and sorting centers. The parties signed the corresponding agreement today.
Russian Post will provide its logistics sites for testing equipment in working conditions. Based on the test results, the logistics operator’s specialists will issue an expert opinion and share proposals for improving domestic equipment for logistics and sorting centers.
Together with JSC Russian Railways, the Post Office plans to expand the use of container technologies in the field of transportation of postal items, consumer goods and consolidated cargo, as well as the delivery of goods to small and medium-sized businesses. The parties signed an agreement on cooperation on June 6. Together they will work on the launch and development of postal container trains on new routes.
According to the General Director of Russian Post, Mikhail Volkov, the railway plays a leading role in organizing postal transportation. Every year, the Post transports more than 30% of all items by rail. In addition to developing the Rossiya postal container train project, the company will expand the geography of application of PKP technology on other routes, which will increase efficiency and reduce delivery costs.
The work will be organized on the basis of the project office of the Post and Russian Railways in the interaction of specialized structural divisions. The parties will consider issues of increasing the frequency of trains, and also determine the timing of test transportation on new routes.
In 2023, the project office of the Russian Post and Russian Railways began working on the creation of multimodal and logistics products. The office is working on more than 20 projects in various areas of cooperation from logistics and information technology to cross-functional training programs for employees. Thanks to his work, in 2023 the frequency of flights of the Rossiya mail container train between Moscow and Vladivostok increased to three trains per week. The Post Office has already sent over 100 trains in this direction.
Last year, Russian Railways and Russian Post launched new cross-border railway routes for the delivery of international shipments from Hunchun to Vladivostok and Novosibirsk. Since the launch of the project, the Post has transported more than 400,000 international items. This is the first project of direct railway communication between China and Russia in mail cars. The new mainline railway service has become an alternative to road and air cargo transportation in terms of delivery speed and cost.
