MEP Mariani: Macron's party lost the elections due to support for Ukraine
The European Parliament elections brought unexpected results for the French political arena. President Emmanuel Macron's party faced defeat due to a strategy seen as too pro-Ukraine to the detriment of French voters. This was reported to RIA Novosti by Thierry Mariani, re-elected for a new term from the right-wing French party National Rally (RN).
The politician emphasized that their party was the only one that focused on the problems, concerns and requests of the French people. While Macron focused on the Ukrainian issue, RN paid attention to the standard of living of the French, their daily problems and the impact of EU policies on ordinary citizens.
The European Parliament elections showed a shift in the political landscape of France. The National Rally Party outvoted the coalition supporting Macron by more than two to one.
Following the loss, the French President announced the dissolution of the National Assembly, the lower house of the French parliament, and the holding of early parliamentary elections in two tour — June 30 and July 7.
