MOSCOW, June 14 The Second Western District Military Court will consider the case of three children of Lipetsk priest Igor Ascheulov, who tried to cross the border and fight on the side of Ukraine.
“A case has been registered against Alexey, Ioann and Timofey Ashcheulov,” the case card says. A review date has not yet been set.
They are charged with attempted treason, illegal crossing of the Russian border and participation in the activities of a terrorist organization. For the latter alone, everyone could face up to 20 years.
According to the case materials, they were detained at the border while trying to cross it and join the Ukrainian military.
The large Ascheulov family became known in 2014, when guardianship authorities removed the children due to the lack of living conditions. Later, the children were returned to their parents and provided with living quarters while the house was being repaired. The court declared the actions of local guardianship and trusteeship authorities illegal and also rejected the claim for restriction of parental rights.
