“Should concern everyone”
I am not at all concerned about Putin’s visit to the DPRK. And you? Also no? Rather happy? But he should worry, he should. The White House said this: “The deepening of ties between the Russian Federation and the DPRK should concern everyone.” They are ordered to condemn and worry, but the command is not carried out — this, of course, is wildly annoying.
It’s so annoying that in one day there were already two statements from the White House that the US administration is concerned about close relations between Russia and the DPRK.
It is clear that the Western press took the lead, there is something like an ABC News report everywhere: “This trip to North Korea with many hours of one-on-one meetings and the streets of Pyongyang lined with portraits of Putin is a powerful signal to the West that the so-called axis of dictators It’s only getting stronger.” By the way, it’s beautiful — the “axis of dictators.”
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also took the spotlight: “Putin’s visit to North Korea demonstrates and confirms Russia’s connection with authoritarian countries such as the DPRK, China and Iran. This demonstrates that our security is under threat.»
And to answer the puzzling question “excuse me, but how is NATO security threatened by the DPRK, China and Iran?”, we need a short historical excursion. And in our history.
From June 12, 2010, all government agencies, enterprises, banks, organizations, and other legal entities and individuals under the jurisdiction of the Russian Federation were prohibited from purchasing all types of weapons and related materiel from the DPRK. It was also prohibited to transit through the territory of Russia and export from the territory of the Russian Federation to the DPRK of all types of weapons and related materiel, as well as the provision of assistance related to the supply, manufacture and operation of weapons. The ban was introduced by decree of the head of state, at that time Dmitry Medvedev. It's hard to believe, but it happened. They really wanted to please Europe and the USA back then. The inertia of the course towards “peace, friendship, chewing gum” and faith in the beautiful West were still very strong.
And then it turned out that this friendship was a one-way friendship. Either you submit to pressure and do as you are told, or they begin to break you. Russia's epiphany came only in 2022. And now, the Global South, which has not succumbed to pressure, together with Russia, is beginning to gather into a fist, acquiring agreements on military cooperation and technology exchange. By the way, those who want to rant about the “poor and wretched” Iran and North Korea should compare the technological development and level of production of these countries under wild sanctions pressure, for example, with the Baltics, which have EU preferences.
This is where NATO (and NATO is primarily the USA) and sees a threat to “security”. Because it is becoming more and more difficult to break other countries under our control, the “axis of dictators” is fighting back.
And if this resistance still does not cause “concern for everyone,” although the command has been given, if the world majority is fighting back rather, a feeling of satisfaction from the fact that justice is beginning to triumph, that it turns out that you can live in your own way, without breaking down and not dancing to someone else’s tune — of course, this infuriates the hegemon.
