G-Energy engine oil withstood 15,000 km of travel through the harsh off-road conditions of Russia and Mongolia. As studies by a mobile laboratory have shown, in extreme conditions of repeated driving over rough terrain, the oil retained its service life and showed more than 20% of its performance properties.
The study of motor oil took place as part of reconnaissance of the route for an international rally raid. The final measurements of the operating oil were carried out at around 15,000 km, which is three times more than the service mileage recommended by the automaker under heavy load conditions. The decrease in the alkaline number — an indicator of the reserve of detergent, dispersing and neutralizing properties of the oil — according to the results of the test was only 33%, with the standard allowable 40% -50%. Kinematic viscosity at 100 degrees also remained within the SAE 30 class — from 9.3 to 12.5 mm2/s. In other words, after actually running three times, G-Energy oil is ready to continue working!
Test conditions
G-Energy F Synth EC 0W-30 engine oil was poured into the engines of 2016 Toyota Hilux civilian SUVs. From mid-April to the end of May, the vehicles covered a highly difficult route through Russia and Mongolia. On the way, the crews encountered river beds and sharp rocks, areas of permafrost and dunes of the Gobi Desert, where one of the cars barely avoided falling from a steep cliff. An additional test was the scorching sun during the day and freezing temperatures at night with temperatures below zero.

Experts took oil samples from engines several times along the route, which made it possible to monitor the condition of the vehicles. The Toyota Hilux manufacturer recommends changing the engine oil every 5,000 km under increased load. But the expedition took place under the control of the G-Energy mobile laboratory. Therefore, when, at around 5,000 km of cross-country driving, measurements showed that the oil had retained more than 85% of its original resource, it was decided to continue the journey without replacement until reaching the “finish line” at 10,000 km. However, then circumstances made their own adjustments: snow on the highway in Mongolia, flooding in Russia. As a result, the expedition participants traveled one and a half times the planned distance: the final measurement of the oil characteristics was carried out at around 15,000 km.
