MOSCOW, June 24 Former soloist of the Bolshoi Theater opera troupe Yuri Markelov has died, according to the Bolshoi Theater website.
«Yuri Markelov, a soloist of the Bolshoi Theater opera troupe in 1983-2017, who performed more than sixty roles on our stage, died on June 24. The Bolshoi Theater staff expresses condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,» the message says.
As specified, farewell to Markelov will take place on June 26 at the morgue of the City Clinical Hospital No. 29 named after N.E. Bauman in Moscow.
Yuri Markelov was born in the village of Ilyinsky, Krasnodar Territory. He performed at the Krasnodar Operetta Theater and sang in the choir of the Krasnodar Cathedral for many years. Graduated from the Rostov State Musical Pedagogical Institute (class of A. Belyaeva) and the Kharkov State Conservatory.
From 1983 to 2016, he was a tenor at the Bolshoi Theater opera troupe. He sang arias of Rodrigo from “Othello” by G. Verdi, Leshy in “The Snow Maiden” by N. Rimsky-Korsakov, Don Curzio from “The Marriage of Figaro” by V.A. Mozart and others. He also took part in the recording of A. Verstovsky’s opera “Askold’s Grave” in 1992 (conductor Y. Nikonenko, “Melody”).
