Deputies demand an apology from the head of the Investigative Committee
A high-level scandal erupted in Russian politics on Thursday. It has been a long time since there have been verbal battles of such intensity. It was started by the head of the Russian Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, who called the State Duma a “state fool” during a discussion at the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum. And then it started…
Bastrykin spoke and talked about the problems caused by illegal migration. He named frightening figures on the growth of crime and the dominance of migrants. (Average statistics indicate the presence of 14.5 or 16.5 million migrants in Russia. Every tenth resident is a foreign citizen. Crimes of an extremist nature have increased by 147%, and migrants are increasingly committing high-profile crimes, including the terrorist attack in Crocus. To Moscow 1.2 million migrants were brought in, 880 thousand in the Moscow region, 860 thousand in St. Petersburg, 13% of migrants work on construction sites, the rest work in taxis, delivering food and in markets.) It is clear that the imperfection of migration legislation contributes to this — otherwise it would not exist now. reformed. So Bastrykin turned to one of the deputies present: “Please tell me what is happening in the State Duma? Is there anyone there at all interested in solving this problem by adopting new laws that would correspond to the tension of the situation?” The deputy replied that of course the work was going on and she would even come up to Bastrykin later to tell him. “I would really like to know when our State fool will pass good laws,” said Bastrykin and, judging by the video, he himself was embarrassed, adding something that was not entirely clear: “Sorry, I’m in the comments…”
Chairman of the State Duma Volodin said that Bastrykin insulted the people with the expression “state fool”, since the deputies were elected by citizens of Russia.
Deputy Khinshtein wrote: “I fully share the position of State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin: Alexander Bastrykin’s statement insults not so much the deputies themselves, but the people who elect us (the deputies). I think Mr. Bastrykin should apologize for his words, which are unacceptable for a person holding such a responsible position.”
Deputy Evgeny Popov called the words of the head of the Investigative Committee rudeness: “The head of the Investigative Committee, Mr. Bastrykin, publicly called the parliament of his own country “fool” and gave the deputy a formal interrogation. The fact that the deputy was shy and did not respond, as a people’s representative should, to rudeness is bad, but it can be treated. But for General Bastrykin, this is a shame.”
Deputy Khamzaev accused Bastrykin of using “Navalnist slogans”: “The Duma of Patriots — that’s what the President says, the Duma of a healthy person — that’s what they say in society. Deputies are people delegated to parliament by society. An insult to parliament is an insult to society. Unlike appointed positions, deputies are elected. It’s bad that a representative of the security bloc uses an opposition-Navalnist slogan, which even the oppositionists have already abandoned.”
Emotions, in this case, played a cruel joke — instead of discussing the monstrous figures voiced by Bastrykin, the discussion turned to the plane of mutual charges.
