MOSCOW, July 5The most experienced cosmonauts will be the first to fly to the Russian Orbital Station (ROS), the deployment of which will begin in 2027, to test new technology, said Roscosmos Executive Director for Manned Space Programs and the first cosmonaut to visit the ISS, Sergei Krikalev.
Roscosmos Director General Yuri Borisov approved the deployment schedule for the Russian Orbital Station on July 2, and contracts were also signed for its construction and the creation of ships for flights to the station on the Angara rocket from the Vostochny Cosmodrome.
» Of course, first of all, as was the case in previous programs, experienced people will be used to test new equipment,” Krikalev said.
According to him, to prepare cosmonauts for the flight to the Russian orbital station at the Cosmonaut Training Center. Yu.A.Gagarin there will be layouts of its modules. The head of the Cosmonaut Training Center, Maxim Kharlamov, also spoke about this in September 2023.
«But, by the way, since I was on the first expedition to the ISS, I can say that not all the simulators were ready for the first expedition. This, in fact, is one of the reasons why they take the most experienced cosmonauts who can somehow then build a picture in your head, somewhere rely on your experience, somewhere on the experience of previous flights,” Krikalev added.
The deployment of the station will begin with the launch of the scientific and energy module in 2027. It, together with three more modules — the universal node module (UUM), the gateway module (SHM) and the base module (BM), which will be launched before 2030, will form the core of the station. At the second stage, from 2031 to 2033, it is planned to expand the station by connecting two target modules (CM1 and CM2).
As Roscosmos believes, the creation of the ROS will ensure the continuous continuation of the Russian manned program after the termination of participation in the International Space Station project, and solve problems of scientific and technological development, national economy and national security that are not available on the ISS.
