MOSCOW, July 13 You can recognize a scammer in a messenger by the offer of earnings, the urgency of the issue and spelling, said Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy.
«You can recognize a scammer in a messenger by paying attention to several key signs. Firstly, if someone unexpectedly writes to you from an unfamiliar number or account and starts the conversation with an offer to make money, lottery winnings or discounts, this may be a signal of fraud,» he said.
The MP added that such messages often contain links that can lead to phishing sites or automatically install malware on your device.
«Secondly, scammers often use urgency and pressure to get you to act quickly and not think twice. For example, they may claim that you must transfer money immediately to avoid losing an opportunity or to avoid a problem. They may make up stories about delayed parcels, blocked accounts or urgent medical situations,” the parliamentarian emphasized.
He added that the third sign is incorrect language and spelling. «Fraudulent messages often contain grammatical errors, strange phrases that look like an incorrect translation from another language. This is due to the fact that fraudsters often work from other countries and use automatic tools to create their messages,» Nemkin explained.
The deputy warned that you should be wary if the interlocutor is trying to get your personal information or financial data.
«Requests under any pretext to provide a bank card number, passwords or other confidential data should arouse suspicion. Fraudsters may use social engineering to try to make you feel trusted, so always double-check who is contacting you and do not share personal information unless necessary,» he concluded.
