MOSCOW, July 15 Russian armored blankets produced by the Scientific Research Institute of Steel (part of the Kalashnikov concern Rostec) protect military equipment from the impact of an FPV drone, follows from the message, published on Monday in the Telegram channel of the state corporation.
Tests of the armored blanket are demonstrated in the new issue of the Rostec special project #OurCrash.
< br />“During the testing of the #OurCrash project, we simulated a drone strike on a minibus using an F-1 grenade. The ammunition was placed on the roof of the car, which was previously covered with an armored blanket produced by the Research Institute of Steel of our Kalashnikov concern. After the grenade detonated, the body of the vehicle was pierced by a high-explosive effect, however the fragments did not penetrate into the cabin. This could protect the crew from the damaging elements of the ammunition,” Rostec said.
The project leader noted that if there had been a distance of 5-10 centimeters between the blanket and the roof, the damage to the car could have been reduced, and also compared the high-explosive effect of a grenade to a powerful blow from a sledgehammer.
“»The role of a sledgehammer is a grenade, and the role of an anvil is the roof of a car. Accordingly, during the interaction of the shock wave and the rigid base, the main structure of the blanket was ruptured. If there had been some distance between the product and the body of the car, then the epicenter of the explosion would have been much smaller. The main purpose of the flexible structures of the blanket is to stretch during the impact of a fragment,” confirmed Dmitry Chumachenko, head of the department of structural protection schemes at the Research Institute of Steel.
According to him, these armored blankets are used, among other things, to cover the wheels of military equipment from shrapnel in a special operation zone. He also noted that these products are purchased mainly by military personnel for sheltering personnel, the wounded, equipment, and covering dugouts.
