KAZAN, July 16 One patient who fell ill with botulism continues treatment at the Republican Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital (RCIB) of Tatarstan, there has been a positive trend in his condition, the clinic reports.
According to the Rospotrebnadzor office for Tatarstan, on June 17, the first six cases of suspected botulism were registered in Kazan after consuming lobio salad produced by LokalKitchen LLC (Moscow). Later, the number of sick people increased to 20 people, one of them was treated as an outpatient.
«There remains one patient with botulism at the RKIB. He is currently in the intensive care unit under 24-hour medical supervision. There is a positive trend,» the message says.
Previously, two more recovered patients were discharged from the infectious diseases hospital. The first victims who were treated for botulism at the Republican Infectious Diseases Hospital of Tatarstan were discharged on June 22.
Investigators on the fact of poisoning of residents of the region opened a criminal case under the article “provision of services that do not meet the requirements for the safety of life and health of consumers.”
According to the Ministry of Health, since June 15, 413 people with signs of botulism have applied for medical help to medical institutions in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tatarstan, Moscow, Volgograd, Kostroma, Nizhny Novgorod, Tambov, Tula, and Yaroslavl regions. According to the latest data, 17 people remain in hospitals, 11 of them in intensive care.
The victims ordered lobio from «Lokalkitchen» («Kitchen in the area») and a salad with tuna, beans and apple from «Gastroport». As stated by the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova, a total of 417 people were affected by the botulism outbreak, two of them died.
