KRASNODAR, July 16 Russian yachting champion Vitaly Elagin , who was not in touch in March, finished his round the world trip in Tangier in Morocco, the traveler and his boat are in excellent condition, his girlfriend Yulia Morozova reported.
Elagin set off on a trip around the world on October 1, 2023 from Tangier (Morocco). On March 19, he stopped communicating. Eight days after the disappearance of his ship off the coast of Chile, Elagin transmitted his first messages by radio. Then he sailed to the Argentine city of Mar del Plata, where he began repairing the yacht, whose sails were most damaged.
In May, he continued his trip around the world after repairing the yacht «Daughter of the Wind» in Argentina.
«Arrived in Tangier yesterday, in a few days he will go to Gelendzhik, he will be there at the end of August. He is feeling great. The boat is also wonderful, it has withstood everything, it is in excellent condition,» the agency's interlocutor said.
One of the yachtsman’s students, Alexey Chvanov, clarified that at the moment the yacht’s repairs are 90% complete. According to him, there are still minor electrical problems that will not affect the transition.
Elagin went to sea from childhood; his father worked as the director of the first yacht club in Gelendzhik. The idea of traveling around the world came to him at the age of 14 after reading Andrzej Urbanczyk’s book “Alone Across the Ocean”. Later he met the famous yachtsman Viktor Yazykov, who designed a “unique yacht” for solo sailing, “Daughter of the Wind,” capable of following a course without an autopilot.
It was on this yacht that Elagin went on a trip around the world and planned to go from Tangier to the Canary Islands, then to the Cape Verde Islands, around the Cape of Good Hope, past Australia and New Zealand, cross the Pacific Ocean, go out into the Drake Passage, and along the Atlantic ocean up return to Tangier.
