DAMASCUS, July 22 A musical concert in honor of the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and Syria was held on Sunday at the Damascus Opera House, a correspondent reports.
The event began with a minute of silence in memory of the Syrian and Russian soldiers who died in the fight against terrorism, followed by a short film about the history of Russian-Syrian relations.
The concert was attended a number of high-ranking officials, including Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Miqdad.
«Syria is proud of this path, full of joint victories between Syria and Russia in all areas,» Miqdad said, emphasizing that the collective West is using the same tools against Syria and Russia.
The Russian ambassador in Damascus, Alexander Efimov, said that relations between Russia and Syria “overcame all difficulties.” He stressed that Moscow is ready to provide support to Damascus at any time.
During the concert, the Syrian National Symphony Orchestra, together with Russian musicians, performed works of Russian and Syrian classical music.
Diplomatic relations between the USSR and Syria were established on July 21, 1944. President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin congratulated Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Sunday on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries and stressed that Russia will always support Syria in its quest to uphold its sovereignty, unity and security.
