The Melnichenko Foundation launches a series of art interventions

Today, the artistic and educational “Urban Camp Vanino” started in the Khabarovsk Territory, which opens a series of art interventions of the Melnichenko Foundation in small towns. Through the creation of thematic murals and other street art objects, it is planned to conduct an open dialogue with residents about the prospects for transforming the urban environment and creating a master plan for the development of the settlement.

“For us, holding this event is, first of all, an opportunity to talk with residents about the future of the city at an early stage of creating a master plan, observing in real time how the space around begins to transform,” said Deputy General Director, Director of the department “Cities” of the Melnichenko Foundation Alexander Krasavtsev. Urbanists and sociologists arrived in Vanino together with the artists to support this work.

In the Khabarovsk Territory, during the “Urban Camp”, residents of the working-class village of Vanino will be able to watch the work of famous artists Vyacheslav Kamenskikh (Moff) and Vasily Kuklev (BASIO), who will create the “Discoverer” mural on the facade of one of the residential buildings. The composition of the future object of urban art will present a plot from the expedition of the great explorer of the Far East Gennady Nevelsky and will symbolize the multifaceted history of the Amur region. The name “Discoverer” is also symbolic for the reason that Vanino became the first settlement in a series of art interventions by the Melnichenko Foundation.

“We want the mural to simultaneously reflect the cultural diversity of the region, the breadth and the initiative of the Russian character, the desire to conquer the sea and the continuity of human movement forward,” noted Vyacheslav Kamenskikh and Vasily Kuklev. Their works already decorate a number of Russian cities, including Miass, Solnechnodolsk, Bakal, Nizhnevartovsk, Snezhinsk.
