The overwhelming majority came specifically to see Kamila. Before the show, representatives of the Olympic champion's support group began circulating around the hall — handing out toys, asking people to hold glowing stars and lightning bolts, as well as a giant banner. Even journalists got it, and no arguments about the need to work served as an excuse. «Well, for Kamila's sake!» And what can you say? We are all here today because of her.
And Camila, by the way, did not disappoint. No, we must, of course, admit the obvious — six months without ice could not help but have an impact. She was a little cautious and clearly afraid of making a mistake, but is that really a problem? The main thing is that she is still beautiful in any role, still flexible as in her best years. And her Bielmann still amazes the imagination.
She deserves a beautiful comeback. It’s hard to believe that a person deprived of the opportunity to fully train is capable of skating like that. In this case, you don’t need to pay attention to jumping in principle — firstly, they are secondary in the show, and secondly, after an extremely long break they are dangerous if you overdo it. In the first full pair number with partner Alexander Enbert (he plays Ruslan), Kamila performed two axels in one and a half rotations and a double toe loop — the set is certainly easy, but only if you do not take into account the context. And it is, of course, necessary to take it into account.
In principle, she could have exited without jumping at all. Because the whole performance was not about circus performance, to put it crudely. Look at her solo rebuke of Chernomor with a balalaika and you’ll understand what I’m talking about. This natural drive, enthusiasm and at the same time some kind of childish simplicity and kindness — it’s difficult to play. You have to be born with this.
It is worth saying that Kamila had a major role, but not the most voluminous one in terms of time. For the most part, the soloists were Enbert and Olympic champions in ice dancing Victoria Sinitsina/Nikita Katsalapov, from whom it was impossible to take your eyes off. When they competed, it was difficult to imagine that Victoria and Nikita would be so harmonious in ice performances. They say that shows help skaters reveal their creative side in a new way — and this, perhaps, applies to Sinitsina/Katsalapov to the greatest extent. In the show format, they honed their artistry to the absolute level.
As for Camila, in the finale, as expected, she received the loudest applause. And the only toy fall of the evening. And we, journalists, need to work, but no. They threw it too. How else? After all, we were all here today because of her.
I would like, you know, to say the same phrase in a little over a year at some competition with Camila’s participation. She deserves a beautiful comeback like no one else.
