SAMARA, July 24 The Kirovsky District Court of Samara extended the arrest of singer Eduard Charlotte until September 23, the court reported.
«The guard has been extended for two months — until September 23,» the agency's interlocutor said, commenting on the question of Charlotte's preventive measure.
Charlotte became a defendant in three criminal cases in December 2023: two under Part 4 of Article 354.1 (rehabilitation of Nazism), one under Part 1 of Article 148 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (public actions committed with the purpose of insulting the religious feelings of believers). Charlotte admitted his guilt, noting that he committed the crimes unintentionally, the investigator stated in court.
The reason was videos in which Charlotte tears a St. George ribbon in the shape of the letter Z and steps on it. In another video, Charlotte naked performs a parody of the tune of the song «Victory Day» by composer David Tukhmanov, nails a photo of Patriarch Kirill, his military ID, and a cross with the crucifixion of Jesus Christ to a tree.
Later, new criminal cases were opened against the singer — under Article 325 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (theft or damage to documents) and Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (incitement of hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity).
On July 23, Rosfinmonitoring added Charlotte to the list of terrorists and extremists. People and organizations included in this registry are prohibited from interacting with the media, posting information online, organizing public events, participating in elections, and using any financial services that do not relate to the payment of taxes, salaries, and compensation for damages.
