MOSCOW, July 29 The second consecutive triathlon training swim at the Paris Olympic Games, which was supposed to take place on Monday morning, has been cancelled due to polluted water in the Seine, France Press reports, citing the Olympic organizing committee.
Earlier, the organizing committee, together with the International Triathlon Federation, cancelled Sunday's training. The reason for the water pollution is said to be the rain that fell on Friday and Saturday in Paris. The triathlon competitions at the Olympics are scheduled for July 30 and 31.
It is noted that the quality of the river water still does not provide sufficient guarantees. However, organizers are confident that the competitions scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday will take place.
According to media reports, the Seine's E. coli pollution level exceeded the recommended limit on the day of Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo's demonstration swim in the river that runs through the capital. Hidalgo swam in the Seine ahead of the Olympics to prove that the river was safe to hold competitions. The mayor was joined in the swim by Tony Estanguet, chairman of the Paris Organizing Committee, and Marc Guillaume, prefect of the capital region. The Seine is set to host triathlon and open-water swimming competitions.
