MOSCOW, July 30 Croatian tennis player Donna Vekic has reached the quarterfinals of the women's singles tournament at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
In the third round of the tournament, Vekic, seeded 13th, beat the world's second-ranked American Cori Gauff (2nd seed) with a score of 7:6 (9:7), 6:2. The athletes spent 1 hour and 58 minutes on the court.
In the quarterfinals of the tournament, Vekic will play against the winner of the match between Greek tennis player Maria Sakkari (7) and Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk (12).
Earlier, 20-year-old Gauff became the youngest flag bearer in the history of the US Olympic team. The American is a seven-time winner of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) tournaments in singles. In 2023, Gauff won the US Open.
