12.7 billion rubles were allocated for the implementation of the Gorky Highway reconstruction project through the infrastructure bond mechanism operated by DOM.RF. The modernization of the highway will ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians, as well as the accessibility of new microdistricts, where more than 1.1 million square meters of housing are expected to be built.
After the reconstruction, the capacity of the Gorky Highway will almost double — up to 11 thousand cars per hour. To achieve this, the number of lanes will be increased from 4 to 6, their width will be 3.5 m. In addition, 3 underground and 5 overground pedestrian crossings, 3 underground U-turns, a new tunnel and overpass will be built, and traffic lights will be eliminated along 11 km of the highway.
“The tranche turned out to be the largest for the entire period of the infrastructure bonds program. The timely issuance of funds will ensure high rates of reconstruction of the Gorky Highway, which is planned to be put into operation ahead of schedule,” commented Alexander Aksakov, Director of the Infrastructure Bonds division of DOM.RF.
Currently, the readiness of various sections of the road is estimated at 80–90%. The entire reconstruction of the highway is planned to be completed by October 2024 — by the opening of the BRICS summit in Kazan.
