Military judges leave former commander of 58th Army Popov under house arrest.
Today, the 235th Garrison Military Court considered the complaint of General Ivan Popov, former commander of the 58th Army. The measure of restraint for Popov remained unchanged, the general will remain under house arrest until October 11, Izvestia reports.
On July 15, the former commander was sent from the pretrial detention center to house arrest.
Popov is suspected of stealing more than 1,700 tons of rolled metal products. The materials were intended for humanitarian aid. They were purchased by the administration of the Zaporizhia region for defensive structures. The cost of the rolled metal products was estimated at 130 million rubles.
Investigators charged Popov under Article 159, Part 4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The general denies the charges brought against him.
