MOSCOW, August 8 Russian canoeist Alexey Korovashkov said that it was incredibly disappointing for him to lose the fight for medals at the Olympic Games in Paris.
On Thursday, Korovashkov and Zakhar Petrov took fourth place in the canoe-pair 500m race. The Russians lost to the bronze medalists by 0.09 seconds.
«F*****, it's a shame. The wind is from the right, and we're both rowing from the left. It was difficult to steer. We had to skip a stroke to keep the boat. Otherwise, we would have been disqualified for being in the wrong lane. Bad luck with the weather,» Sport24 quotes Korovashkov as saying.
«We came here for the victory. Yes, we are rowing on one side, but the main thing is to strive,» Petrov added.
The Olympics are being held from July 26 to August 11. Fifteen Russians have been admitted to the Games: seven tennis players, three representatives of canoeing and kayaking, three cyclists, one representative of trampoline jumping, and one swimmer. By decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the athletes are competing in a neutral status, without the Russian flag and anthem, and their awards are not reflected in the medal table.
