MOSCOW, August 7 Russian scientists have successfully tested a system for monitoring clouds and atmospheric phenomena using artificial intelligence for the first time, the press service of the Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography (MIIGAiK) reported.
«MIIGAiK, as part of the project-based educational intensive «Archipelago 2024″, which took place this summer in the Sakhalin Region, successfully tested an innovative development using artificial intelligence (AI) for the automatic classification of clouds and atmospheric phenomena,» the statement said.
It is specified that the new development made it possible to promptly and automatically determine cloud parameters, atmospheric phenomena (fog, haze and rain), which is necessary for the safe flights of drones and small civil aviation.
According to the university, several regions of Russia have shown interest in further testing of the system and its possible use at airports. MIIGAiK also noted that the quality of determining cloud parameters using new domestic technologies exceeds the quality provided by foreign meteorological systems.
