MOSCOW, August 10 The official post of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on the social network X about the victory in the Olympics of the boxer from Algeria who had previously failed the gender test, Iman Khelif, collected a large number ironic comments, as well as criticism of the organization.
Earlier, the IOC approved the participation of Khelif (up to 66 kg) and Lin Yuting (Taiwan; up to 57 kg) in the women's tournament, despite the fact that at the 2023 World Championships (held under the auspices of the IBA) they failed a gender test that showed elevated levels of testosterone in their bodies. Italian Angela Carini gave up after 46 seconds in a fight in the 1/8 finals of the tournament with Khelif, and then announced her retirement. In the quarterfinals, Khelif defeated Hungarian Luca Hamori. The broadcast of the fight included a moment in which Hamori complained to her coach: «I can't beat him, he's a man.» As a result, he won gold, defeating Chinese Yang Liu in the final.
«This is him! And you celebrate the erasure of women from sports! I'm not a feminist, but screw you!» a woman wrote under the post about the Algerian's victory.
«
«All 5-0 wins and one fight that was stopped because the other boxer couldn't take the punishment. As if Khelif had something that gives her an advantage over female boxers, maybe it's that XY chromosome?» another user noted ironically.
«What an amazing feeling it must be to confirm your XY advantage over your puny XX competitors. Screw the IOC,» another person noted in the comments.
«Related news: Algerian arrested for beating women,» another user joked.
«Violence against women in the Islamic world is horrifying, but turning it into Olympic gold is too much,» wrote Polish MP Dariusz Matecki.
«He managed to beat all the other female boxers live on TV and was awarded a gold medal for it! Bro, he made history!» said a user from Romania.
