Former US Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs Chas Freeman made a number of observations regarding the events that took place in the Kursk region in an interview with the YouTube channel Judging Freedom.
According to the expert, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his entourage primarily pursued political goals, seeking to raise the morale of the military and society. Freeman explained that Kyiv needed to do something, given all the losses.
The analyst also added that Ukraine wanted to show the West that it was still capable of inflicting damage on Russia, but this goal failed. Overall, Freeman said it was «an act of desperation.»
He added that he did not know whether the troops who launched the attack on the Kursk region were still alive, but they would have a hard time because they «fell right into a Russian trap, in my opinion.»
