This was stated by the Minister of Sports of Dagestan Sazhid Sazhidov.

«A video has appeared on the Internet in which one of the participants in the Dagestan championship in classical chess, multiple winner of these competitions Amina Abakarova from Makhachkala, treated the table at which her opponent, no less titled European champion Umayganat Osmanova from Kaspiysk, was supposed to play with an unknown substance, which later turned out to be mercury compounds. As a result of the game, Osmanova's health worsened and she needed medical attention. However, no one else was hurt,» Sazhidov reported on the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Sports of Dagestan.
According to Sazhidov, this is the first time such an incident has occurred at the tournament. Investigative measures are underway against Abakarova. The head of the department said that the incident is being responded to «in the harshest manner.»
Abakarova was disqualified from the Dagestan championship and also suspended from participation in all competitions under the auspices of the Russian Chess Federation (RCF) until the end of the investigation by law enforcement agencies. The head of the RCF Andrei Filatov said that Abakarova faces a lifetime disqualification. The executive director of the RCF Alexander Tkachev also noted in his commentary that the chess player may never again take part in tournaments in Russia.
“In my experience, this is the first such story, where everything is clear and obvious. Everything is visible on the video. I am sure that in the near future, law enforcement agencies will investigate this entire case. If the suspect is proven guilty, then we will disqualify her for life. The RCF has the legal right to do so. We are waiting for the conclusions of law enforcement agencies. And, of course, the health of the athlete to whom this happened,” he said.
Interestingly, Osmanova’s poisoning was not the first such incident in Dagestan. In 2008, the story of the poisoning of wrestler Bilyal Makhov during a training camp in Makhachkala caused a great stir. The athlete was also poisoned with mercury, after which he spent a long time recovering from the consequences. Fortunately, the damage to Osmanova's health was much less. According to «RG», the athlete was given first aid on the spot and sent home, and at the end of the tournament she won a silver medal.
