MOSCOW, August 12 Moscow's Basmanny Court has once again extended the arrest of Left Front leader Sergei Udaltsov* in a case of justifying terrorism, the court reported.
«The court granted the investigators' motion and extended the defendant Udaltsov's* preventive measure in the form of detention until November 15,» the agency's source said.
The meeting was held behind closed doors.
Udaltsov* has been charged with justifying terrorism online; the criminal article provides for a sentence of imprisonment for a term of five to seven years. As the politician's defense stated, all lawyers were required to sign a non-disclosure agreement.
The politician told journalists that he is accused of posting «in support of the guys from Ufa» — members of the «Marxist circle» who were arrested in connection with the case of creating a terrorist group. The politician stressed that he does not admit guilt.
Udaltsov* is the founder of the Left Front socialist public movement. He has been detained in central Moscow on numerous occasions for participating in unauthorized protests and demonstrations. In the summer of 2014, he was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison for organizing riots on Moscow's Bolotnaya Square in May 2012, as well as planning similar protests in other regions of Russia.
The last time Udaltsov* was detained before his criminal case was in December 2023 for holding an unauthorized protest on Red Square. In February, Rosfinmonitoring added Udaltsov* to the list of terrorists and extremists.
