BEIJING, Aug. 14 China has taken necessary measures to eliminate the consequences of the destruction of the Changzheng 6A carrier rocket and is analyzing the data, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.
Earlier, the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation reported the successful launch of a Long March 6A rocket carrying 18 satellites. The U.S. Space Command later said the Chinese rocket had broken up, leaving more than 300 trackable pieces of debris in low Earth orbit. China's Foreign Ministry confirmed to Bloomberg that the rocket had been destroyed.
«The relevant actions are activities for the peaceful use of outer space, carried out in accordance with international law and international practice. China has taken the necessary measures, closely monitored the relevant orbital zones and conducted data analysis,» the Foreign Ministry said.
The ministry noted that, «as a responsible state, China attaches great importance to reducing space debris, actively fulfills relevant international obligations in the field of space activities, regulates its space activities, requires measures to reduce space debris after the launch of satellites and rockets, promotes the protection of the space environment and maintains the long-term sustainability of space activities.»
According to Bloomberg, the explosion of this rocket was one of the largest sources of space debris in recent decades.
