Kayleigh McEnany had come into contact with Donald Trump in the last week
The White House press secretary, who has been briefing journalists on the president’s condition, has become the latest to test positive for Covid-19.
Kayleigh McEnany said she received the confirmation on Monday after testing negative every day since Thursday, which is when Donald Trump discovered he had the coronavirus.
Ms McEnany, who briefed journalists yesterday without a face mask, said she was not experiencing any symptoms.
“As an essential worker, I have worked diligently to provide needed information to the American people at this time,” she continued. “With my recent positive test, I will begin the quarantine process and will continue working on behalf of the American people remotely.”
The 32-year-old was in contact with both Hope Hicks and Mr Trump in recent days — both of whom have tested positive for coronavirus, however, she decided not to quarantine after receiving negative tests.
Three journalists working at the White House already tested positive last week.
However, in a statement released today, the White House said that “no reporters, producers, or members of the press are listed as close contacts by the White House Medical Unit.”
McEnany becomes the seventh member in Mr Trump’s circle to have contradicted the virus, alongside his wife Melania, Bill Stepien, the president’s campaign manager, and Kellyanne Conway, a former counsel who helped prepare Mr Trump for his debate against Joe Biden.
