Large crossover Toyota Grand Highlander enters the market

This model comes with three powerplants to choose from. The new SUV, as expected, turned out to be more expensive than “just” Highlander.

The premiere of the three-row crossover Grand Highlander was held by Toyota back in February this year. So far, the model is addressed only to North America, production has been established in the States at the same plant in Indiana, where the Highlander is made without a prefix. So now prices have been announced in the US, and local dealers have opened orders.

Recall that the Grand did not just become a stretched version of the Highlander — it has its own body and design, although the GA-K platform is still common for cars. The length of the novelty is 5116 mm, the wheelbase is 2949 mm. The indicators of the American Toyota Highlander are 4950 and 2850 mm, respectively. The Grand Highlander was conceived primarily as a model with a full third row for adult passengers.

The new SUV is available with three powertrains to choose from, two of which Grand shared with his younger brother: a 2.4 petrol turbo engine (269 hp) in conjunction with an eight-speed automatic and a hybrid system with a 2.5 naturally aspirated, electric motor and electromechanical variator (cumulative return — 246 hp). Such cars can have front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (in this case, the hybrid has an additional electric motor on the rear axle). The third modification is called Hybrid Max, it is all-wheel drive by default, the installation includes a 2.4 turbo engine, an electric motor and a six-speed automatic, the total power is 367 hp

Crossover Grand Highlander Hybrid is presented in basic and «medium» versions, Hybrid Max — in Limited and Platinum versions. The model can have an eight- or seven-seater saloon, that is, the second row can have a three-seater sofa or separate armchairs.

The equipment list of the base crossover includes: 18-inch wheels, heated front seats, a multimedia system with a 12.3-inch screen, a 7-inch display in the tidy, wireless charging for a smartphone, a power tailgate and a Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 security system. (adaptive cruise control, auto-brake systems, blind spot monitoring, lane keeping, etc.). The Limited version comes with 20-inch wheels, leather upholstery, front seat ventilation, a heated steering wheel, virtual tidy (12.3 inches), a touchless trunk opening system and a parking assistant. Toyota Grand Highlander Platinum is also a head-up display, all-round cameras, a panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated second row seats.

Petrol Grand costs 43,070 $53,545, the Grand Highlander Hybrid is $44,670-$51,060, and the Hybrid Max is $54,040-$58,125. For comparison, a «simple» Highlander starts at $36,620, while a hybrid starts at $40,620. All prices, traditionally for the States, are excluding taxes and delivery. «Live» sales of the Grand will begin this summer.

Meanwhile, the premium analogue of the Toyota Grand Highlander, the Lexus TX crossover, will debut next week.
