First the Chevrolet Cruze sedan debuted in 2008, then the Cruz became a whole family — there was also a hatchback and station wagon. And it was a truly global model: it was made at General Motors factories around the world, including Russia. The “four-door” passed into the second generation in 2015 (we are talking about the “world” version, there were three generations in China), a new hatch joined it a year later, but the “barn” was abandoned. This car has not reached us at all.

The geography of production of the “second” Cruz was no longer so extensive, and over time he left the sites in the States, Mexico, South Korea and the Middle Kingdom — respectively, the model left these markets as well. As a result, Chevy Cruze remained only in Argentina, from where it is also delivered to neighboring Brazil. There, the sedan and hatch were last modernized at the very beginning of 2022. But Cruz will also leave South America soon: it has been officially announced that the Argentine company GM will curtail the production of the model before the end of this year.

There is no talk of closing the plant, because the Chevrolet Tracker crossover is also produced in Argentina, and after the departure of Cruze, the production of SUVs will be increased (SUVs are also exported). A farewell special version for the Chevrolet Cruze has not been prepared — at least not yet. Now the sedan and the “five-door” are offered with a non-alternative “turbo four” 1.4: in Brazil, the engine traditionally runs on both gasoline (150 hp) and ethanol (153 hp), while in Argentina it is a purely gasoline version (153 hp). There is only one box — a six-speed «automatic». By the way, the hatchback is only available to Brazilians in the “sported” version of the RS, while their neighbors can also choose the standard model.

In Argentina, both a sedan and a five-door variant today cost somewhere between $30,000. About the same price for a basic four-door in Brazil, and an RS hatch costs at least $34,500 there. Monza (aka Cavalier), but there will be no heir in the Argentine and Brazilian markets. Although these countries will not remain without Chevy cars: they sell more compact four-doors and the Onix hatchback.
