Nadine Dorries resigned as Conservative MP shortly before she was denied a peerage on Boris Johnson's resignation honors list.
The former culture secretary said that she immediately steps down from her seat in Mid Bedfordshire, prompting a potentially tricky by-election for Rishi Sunak.
Mr Johnson's list of awards was released on Friday, but Ms Dorris did not appear on it despite repeated reports that she will be nominated for a peerage.
A seat in the House of Lords would have meant that she could no longer sit as an MP. Instead, her candidacy was returned to the Lords Review Committee, which would have prevented a by-election in her constituency.
However, her unexpected resignation means that there will now be a by-election regardless.< /p>
Both Labor and the Liberal Democrats believe her majority of 24,664 could be ousted as Mr Sunak faces one of his biggest electoral tests as prime minister.

Ms. Dorries was expected to be on the honor roll along with Alok Sharma, former Cop26 President, Alistair Jack, Scottish Secretary, and Nigel Adams, former Cabinet Minister.
She told TalkTV that «that something significantly” changed her mind about remaining a deputy, saying: “I’m not going to chat. I have a few thoughts and things to think about.
«I didn't want to call a by-election, but I honestly got over myself and it's time to do the right thing.»

A Downing Street source said Sunak was not involved in removing Dorris from the list, saying it was a matter for the House of Lords Appointments Commission (Holac).
They said: “The complete approved list has been sent to Holac. The process is that the outgoing prime minister draws up a list of honorary titles upon resignation, and the incumbent prime minister sends it to Holak.
“Then they do due process and then send the approved list. Holak returned the approved list and the prime minister did nothing; he has just sent the whole list to the king.»

He said: «His promise to rule with integrity has been completely broken . Boris Johnson has caused crisis after crisis in this country. His lack of honor means he didn't deserve the list of honors at all.
However, Sunak relented, rewarding Johnson for his reckless behavior as prime minister. The British public will be outraged by this rash decision.
