Autoteka experts (Avito project), together with the international research company Ipsos, found out what data Russian motorists most often take into account when choosing a car with mileage in 2023 and how priorities have changed compared to last year.
As part of a study conducted by experts from Autoteka and Ipsos, 2,000 residents of large Russian cities aged 20 to 55 were interviewed, who bought or sold a car in the last 6 months or plan to buy or sell a car in the next six months.

The study showed that when buying a used car, 76% of respondents first of all pay attention to the history of the car. Notably, history matters the most to those who have already had experience buying a used car (82%). In turn, young men aged 20-29 are the least involved in checking the history of a car, however, the older a man is, the more careful he becomes when choosing a used car. Thus, men aged 40+ more often than men aged 20-29 answered that they check whether the car is wanted (70% versus 56%), whether the car is pledged (74% versus 48%) and participation in an accident ( 78% vs 55%.
Respondents identified five main criteria when choosing a used car in 2023: no serious accidents and repairs (45%), car price (42%), mileage (37%), body condition (36%), car reliability (33%) and the cost of maintenance (27%).
For comfort, which refers to the characteristics of the car that make it more convenient for the driver and passengers, they pay more attention in Moscow (28%), and in cities with a population of more than 500 thousand and 1 million people, with the exception of Moscow and St. Petersburg, the technical condition of the car is more important: 48% vs. in general.

Most often, the absence of fines is checked by women aged 20 to 29 (84%), being wanted by women aged 30-39 (81%). In general, buyers of cars for 300-700 thousand rubles are most interested in issues of restrictions on a car and fines.
42% of respondents named price as the most important criterion when choosing a used car. At the same time, buyers aged 46-55 pay the most attention to the price (64%).
With less interest in 2023, buyers of used cars seek to find out the number of its owners — this parameter is of interest to 60% of respondents.
