Harry Kane presented Gareth Southgate and his England teammates with a personalized gold vinyl record to celebrate his being the country's top scorer.
Kane's May penalty against Italy during last international break saw him score 54 goals for the Three Lions. , compared to Wayne Rooney's previous record.
Southgate's side met for the first time since Kane reached his milestone, with Euro qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia to close out the season where they reached the World Cup quarter-finals over the winter.
Kane presented a «record-breaking» a gift to his teammates when they met at St. George's Park, with a personal message on the plaque listing his goals and the date they were scored.
«This gift is a token of my appreciation for the part you have played in helping me become England's all-time leading scorer,» read the inscription addressed to Southgate. “Without you and all the English staff, this would not have been possible. Thank you for everything I've been in England.”
Kane captained Southgate in the England squad, having received an armband from Rooney in 2017. He scored five goals in the Roy Hodgson era as England manager, but the rest came under Southgate.
«I don't like to look too far into the future, but I'm 29 and I feel in good shape and strong — the best I've felt in my career. I hope I have many more years to come,” he said after breaking the record in March. “Playing for England is probably my biggest feeling in football. I want to do it for as long as possible and as a striker I want to score in every game.”
Jordan Henderson, Kieran Trippier, Harry Maguire and John Stones were among those who got the record, and during the presentation they were sitting in front row in St. George's Park. The Stones returned to the team later when Manchester City were in the Champions League final.
