The EU has introduced new restrictions on the supply of cars to Russia

p> The European Union has entered the next restrictions concerning the Russian Federation, they will directly affect the local automobile market. The new bans are part of the eleventh package of sanctions published today, June 23, and apply to the supply to Russia of certain categories of vehicles, as well as a number of components for cars.

According to the published document, now the EU countries cannot supply to Russia RF new and used electric cars, hybrids, as well as cars with gasoline engines, if their volume exceeds 1.9 liters. Under the ban fall all cars of these categories, regardless of their market value.

Recall that last year the European Union imposed a ban on the export of so-called «luxury cars”, all cars whose value exceeds 50 thousand euros fell under it (according to the current exchange rate, this amount is equivalent to about 4.6 million rubles).

In 2022-2023, European car brands and component manufacturers continue to leave the Russian market and get rid of local assets. The Renault Group reserved the option to buy back its stake in AVTOVAZ within six years (one of which has already passed), as Russia was previously the second largest market for the brand after France.

However, other companies leave on different terms. For example, the manufacturer Mercedes-Benz sold all its assets, including a plant in the Moscow region, opened recently, in 2019, to a large local dealer. There is no official information about what cars this company will produce now. According to rumors, these may be models of the Chinese luxury brand Hongqi.

Not only the EU introduced sanctions against the Russian Federation. So, last year, the US Department of Commerce announced a ban on official deliveries of, in fact, all American-made passenger cars. As Kolesa.ru noted earlier, this restriction applies even to those models in which the volume of a gasoline engine does not exceed 1000 cm3, while mass manufacturers from the States simply do not have such cars.

A little later Japan has also joined the sanctions: since April 2022, there has been an embargo on the supply of luxury goods to the Russian Federation, including expensive cars. We are talking, in particular, about those models whose cost exceeds 6 million yen (equivalent to about 3.5 million rubles at the current exchange rate), as well as motorcycles worth more than 600,000 yen (about 352 thousand rubles).
