Hyundai has unveiled the design of the fifth-generation Santa Fe mid-size crossover, which is positioned as a spacious family SUV for travel and outdoor recreation. The full technical premiere of the new Santa Fe will take place in August.
Hyundai Motor Group is famously experimenting with the design of its subsidiary brands in the 21st century, and the newer the model, the more radical the changes. The “fifth” Santa Fe is a clear confirmation of this: the previous four generations did not look alike, but were conditionally united by rounded shapes, but the fifth generation crossover will be emphatically square-nested and at the same time elegant.

In the cabin, it is also difficult to get rid of associations with Discovery: a steering wheel with a massive hub and spokes located at right angles, a front panel drawn like a ruler, a separate large microclimate unit, a straight and high central tunnel. The tunnel, by the way, is two-story, with a storage niche at the bottom and a wide wireless charging shelf for two smartphones at the top. A sign of the times is a fully virtual two-screen display (2 x 12.3 inches), with its multimedia part slightly turned towards the driver. The decoration uses expensive-looking materials, including wood grain and nappa leather. The ceiling, second and third row seatbacks, door cards, floor mats and sills are upholstered with environmentally friendly materials based on recycled plastic.

Hyundai emphasizes the improved practicality of the new Santa Fe and a more spacious three-row interior than its predecessors: the wheelbase has been increased, and the front overhang has been reduced for nobler proportions. The interior and trunk will be among the most spacious in its class. The almost flat tailgate is stretched across the entire width of the body and provides the largest possible loading opening. When open, the tailgate occupies a horizontal position and creates the effect of a terrace in the open air, under it you can place a picnic table. The seats of the second and third rows in the folded position form a flat floor, on which it is convenient to organize two places to sleep. The roof, judging by the pictures, is adapted for setting up a tent — thus four people can go on an overnight trip at once.

There is no information about the technique yet, it will be made public in August as part of the full premiere of the «fifth» Santa Fe. Nevertheless, the pictures show that the new crossover is not shy about the exhaust pipes — they are quite massive. At the rear of the copper-colored car, a 2.5T nameplate is visible, unambiguously indicating a gasoline “turbo-four” with a capacity of about 280 hp borrowed from the fourth-generation crossover, but the main bet is likely to be made on hybrid modifications.
