In the company's homeland, the production of a three-row SUV will be completed at the end of this year. At the same time, another large cross will replenish the range.
Mazda continues to reform its SUV lineup. In June, it was announced that the CX-9 model is leaving the US, where it will be replaced by the CX-90 crossover (already on sale), which belongs to the so-called premium family (now it also includes the CX-60, the range will be expanded soon) . Recall that prestigious cars are made on a platform with a longitudinal engine and basic rear-wheel drive. So now it turned out that in December the production of the CX-8 SUV will also be curtailed in Japan: a corresponding message appeared on the local consumer website of the brand.

The three-row 4.9-meter figure-eight debuted in 2017, in fact, this cross is a stretched version of the CX-5. Initially, the Mazda CX-8 was positioned as an exclusive for the Japanese market, where it «replaced» the mentioned CX-9 (the «nine» was never sold in Mazda's homeland). However, then the G8 also reached Australia, New Zealand, China and the countries of Southeast Asia. Moreover, in the Middle Kingdom, Malaysia and Vietnam, they even launched the production of the CX-8. In the last two countries, assembly will apparently be stopped after Japan, but in China the crossover may well be delayed. />Mazda CX-8In the home market, the best year for the Mazda CX-8 was 2018, when 30,700 SUVs were sold. But then sales rapidly crept down. The result of last year is already 12,900 units. At the end of 2022, the SUV survived restyling, but the new clothes did not help it, and this year the model even lost to the more expensive CX-60: in January-July, the G8 sold 9,973 copies, while the status SUV acquired more than 19,000 owners .
Mazda CX-8
Now the CX-8 is offered at home with naturally aspirated petrol Skyactiv-G 2.0 (190 hp, 252 Nm) and Skyactiv-G 2.5T turbo four (230 hp, 420 Nm), in addition, you can choose the Skyactiv-D 2.2 diesel (200 hp, 450 Nm). All motors are combined with a six-speed «automatic», front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The price is from $20,800, while the CX-60 will cost a minimum of $22,400.
Meanwhile, the place of a three-row SUV in the Japanese range of Mazda will not be empty (CX-90 in the Land of the Rising Sun not for sale): another prestigious model, the CX-80, is being prepared for the premiere. This crossover can be presented before the end of this year.
