Blue Wall voters have more confidence in the Labor Party in the fight against crime

The Labor Party is now more trusted than the Tories in fighting crime, according to a poll of Blue Wall voters.

Redfield & A Wilton Strategies poll conducted from 26 to 27 August found that 28 percent of voters chose the Labor Party and 21 percent chose the Conservatives when asked which party they trust most on crime issues.

The Tories were ahead on this issue in the previous poll, taken from 12 to 13 August, garnering the support of 23 percent of Blue Wall voters compared to 21 percent for Labor. not a good time for the government, as ministers made a series of statements this week as part of what is known as «crime week».

The government announced overnight that it would ban more “zombie-style knives and machetes that have no practical use.” The police will be given more power to seize and destroy offensive objects.

Labor has more confidence in the NHS and the economy

The Redfield & A Wilton Strategies poll found Labor outperformed the Conservatives in voter confidence in 11 of 14 key policy areas.

When asked which party they most trust in supporting the National Health Service, about 33 percent of Blue Wall voters chose the Labor Party, while 18 percent chose the Conservatives.

And when asked which party they most trust to run the economy, about 28 percent chose Labor, while 24 percent chose the Conservatives.

Labor was also more trusted to provide “levelling” – 27 percent chose the Labor Party, and 18 percent chose the Tories, a breach of the Conservatives' flagship promise that was the basis of Boris Johnson's premiership.

The Tories have been more credible than the Labor Party in matters of immigration and response to the situation in Ukraine. Both parties even tried to respond to the Covid crisis.

Labor was more trusted than the Tories on eight of the 14 questions in the previous Blue Wall poll, taken August 12–13.

A setback for Sunak

Overall, the poll gave the Labor Party a one-point lead over the Tories in the Blue Wall. Labor received 33 percent of the vote, up one point, while the Tories got 32 percent, down one point.

The Liberal Democrats came in third with 25 percent of the vote. unchanged from the previous poll.

The results represent a setback for Mr. Sunak as he tries to lead the Tories to victory in the next general election, widely expected to take place next year.

The Blue Wall are wealthy constituencies in the south of England where the Conservatives have traditionally won.

Redfield and amp; The Wilton Strategies poll covered 42 Blue Wall seats, all of which were won by the Tories in the 2019 general election. Holding the seats will be critical to Sunak's hopes of staying at Downing Street.
