Tottenham fans serenaded Anjou Postecoglou to the tune of Robbie Williams' Angels, but perhaps Let Me Entertain You would have been more apt after his team edged out Burnley and maintained an unbeaten start to the Premier League season.< /p>
They could have scored more than their five goals at Turf Moor. Son Heung-min scored a hat-trick and James Maddison pulled the strings and was rewarded with a goal. Postecoglou also has centre-back Cristian Romero, who failed to score a goal last season but has already scored two goals this season.
“It was a testament to the scorers taking the lead and taking it daily. not only in words but also in deeds,” said Postecoglu, Tottenham's amiable Australian manager in his debut season in the Premier League. “They bought into it and Madders is one of them. He was so creative and showed how clinical he is. A great example of how he is ready to work in a team.”
This week, Training Ground Guru resurfaced a fascinating interview with Postecoglu dated 2020 where he talked about the bond with his late father while growing up watching 1970s artists play and their shared interest only in exciting football. It will be music to the ears of Spurs fans.
“Instead, I love Big Ange,” the words were reversed in the Angels fan version, and they were finally sent back down the M6, happy after visiting the site. It was here that Antonio Conte exploded last year, and before that Jose Mourinho cracked down on his own players.
There was no such drama here, despite lagging behind Lyle Foster's early debut. After that, the Spurs ruthlessly punished Burnley for their mistakes. Son's hat-trick came in a striker role that Harry Kane vacated on the eve of the season. And Maddison is now an offensive player. He really likes being fouled and criticized by the opponent's fans.
“He is a pretty strong and hardy guy. It's not that he likes to be targeted, but he wants the ball and has that quality,» Postecoglou said.
Burnley could not have started better by taking the lead four minutes after a shot that swept through the back line of the guests with a sharp pass and a powerful run. Luca Coleoscio, Italy Under-19 striker, showed Premier League experience as he managed to get past Pedro Porro before his shot allowed Foster to land a clean shot into the far corner.
The Spurs hit back with a long ball down the middle, although the finish was difficult. Porro secured the first route to goal with a downfield shot that Burnley could not manage. Seconds later, Son exchanged passes with Manor Solomon before the Spurs captain tipped the ball over to James Trafford. They were ahead in added minutes of the first half after Burnley made four unsuccessful attempts to clear Maddison's corner. The ball fell on Romero at the edge of the box and he shot into the top corner of the post.
Maddison's goal came after Burnley lost the ball in home territory and Destiny Udogi passed the ball to Maddison, who was granted enough time on the edge of the box to aim and shoot well.
Son's second goal came after Solomon broke through the Burnley defense and passed to his captain. Porro played Son behind the Burnley defense and earned his treble. Josh Brownhill pulled one back for the home side in the final seconds.
Son's ability to play in Kane's position was part of thinking about not aiming for a nine in the window. «That's one of the reasons,» Postecoglou said. “I have a picture in my head of what I want the team to look like and we are still working on building it. It's about picking the pieces together and not ignoring what's in front of you. Sonny, center or winger, has all the qualities you need to play in any system.»
