Joe Biden said his age is due to «a little wisdom» as a poll showed that three-quarters of Americans think he is too old to run for president again.
The President responded to concerns about his age in Philadelphia's Labor Day speech on Monday.
A Wall Street Journal poll found that 73 percent of Americans, including two-thirds of Democrats, think Biden, 80, is too old to run again in next November's presidential election.
Less half said the same about Donald Trump, who is three years younger than his successor in the White House.
Addressing the crowd celebrating the US national day, Mr. Biden said: “I told you this, who said, «That Biden, he's getting old, man.»
«You know what? Guess what? The only thing that comes with age is a little wisdom.
“I've been doing this longer than anyone, and you know what? I will continue to do so with your help.»

In the same poll, only 36 percent of voters said Biden was «mentally ready for the job,» compared to 46 percent who said the same about Trump. and 44 percent said he had a «vision for the future».
The president surpassed Trump on other metrics, including «likeable person» status (48 percent) and «honesty» status (45 percent versus Trump's 38 percent).
The latest poll came after a series of missteps by Biden, which his political opponents attribute to his age.
In June, the president said that Vladimir Putin was «losing the war in Iraq» and not in Ukraine.
Two months earlier, he had confused the New Zealand All Blacks rugby team with the Black and Tans, British policemen recruited during the Irish War of Independence to suppress the IRA.

James Johnson, founder of JLP Partners, a Washington polling center, said that among US voters there was a «rare consensus» regarding Biden's age.
«When we ask people to describe Biden in one word, the most prominent is the word 'old' followed by the word 'incompetent', which is not a good combination,» he told The Telegraph.
«It's a problem, which actually begins to overcome polarization. It is becoming quite a rare consensus in US politics that he is too old for the position.”
Mr. Biden is the oldest person to be elected president and is currently three years older than Ronald Reagan, the next who left office at the age of 77.
Republican candidates used his age as a political attack, with some speculating that he might leave the White House to Kamala Harris, his vice president.
GOP-running Nikki Haley told Fox News in April: «If you vote for Joe Biden, you're really counting on President Harris because the idea that he'll live to 86 is nothing something special.» I think it's quite likely.»
