Rooney «disappointed» by DC United.
Earlier this week, Rooney said talks on a proposed new deal had yet to materialize.
“I'm a little disappointed and disappointed that there was no contact for two months,” he told the Washington Post.
“We asked about a new deal. We can sit down and talk about it. We have not received a response.
“Anyway, I can accept any situation. I was hoping we could at least talk about it anyway. This is not the case.
“We asked to sit down and talk because planning for next season needs to continue. So two months ago we asked where everything is, whether we are moving forward or not moving forward — if so from their point of view — and received no answer.
«It's frustrating, because, in any case , I would rather know what the plan is because we need to plan for the next season. We need to do this sooner rather than later. The fact that we didn't get a response probably signals one thing, but I'm sure they'll have their reasons. So I'll wait and see.”
Rooney used to be England's all-time record goalscorer with 53 goals in 120 matches before he was overtaken by Harry Kane. He remains United's all-time leading scorer with 253 goals in 559 appearances.
Birmingham have had an impressive start to the season under Eustace, with the club fourth in the league table after a 1-1 draw against Millwall on Saturday. They will return to action on 16 September, traveling to Watford.
Eustace was praised for the work he did last season under difficult circumstances, and the former owners of Birmingham Sports Holding Limited were hugely popular with fans.
